WE SALUTE YOU, FRANK BUCKLES

Frank Buckles (February 1, 1901-February 27, 2011) passed away last night at the age of 110. He was the last living American veteran of WWI. Enlisting at the age of 16, he was quickly sent to Europe. During WWII, while working in the Philippines, he was captured by Japanese forces. He went on to spend 3 1/2 years in a Japanese POW camp.

The U.S. Military Veterans of Columbia University salute you, Mr. Buckles. Your passing marks the end of an American era. Rest in peace.
