The following is a summary of the February 2nd, 2011 J-CLEAVE meeting:
At 5:30pm, J-CLEAVE members met in Lerner Hall (5th floor, Student Clubs) for a weekly meeting. To open the meeting, J-CLEAVE members reiterated the importance of professionalism and self-awareness during the upcoming weeks and months. Also addressed were the need to facilitate letter-writing for veterans who wish to contact their congressional representatives but are unsure of how best to do so, as well as a review of statistical information pertinent to the GI Bill 1.0-2.0 transition.
Looking to the future, J-CLEAVE discussed upcoming events and opportunities which we will attend in order to spread our message about the need for revision of the new GI Bill. Also discussed was the ongoing effort to expand J-CLEAVE participation to student-veterans of other private institutions that are in a similar situation as that of Columbia.
In closing, J-CLEAVE members set task priorities for the upcoming weeks, received a briefing from the treasurer, and identified areas where help is still needed. The meeting adjourned at 7:30pm.
