Seeking a GS Delegate to U.S. Military Academy Student Conference on U.S. Affairs

The U.S. Military Academy has invited GS to nominate one outstanding student to attend the 63^rd annual Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA), to be held November 2– 5 at West Point, New York.

 

This year’s conference theme is “Thinking Beyond Boundaries: Contemporary Challenges to U.S. Foreign Policy.” If selected to attend, you will join fellow undergraduates from around the world in four days of debate about the direction of American political strategy in the international arena. You will be invited to hear leading figures speak and to articulate your own policy recommendations for the future.

 

You could be the GS delegate to the conference if:

• you are studying political science, modern history, or a related field;
• you are a senior or a second-term junior;
• you have a GPA of at least 3.5; and
• you can commit yourself to attending all four days of the conference.

If you are interested in being the GS delegate, please submit a brief essay (not longer than one page) explaining what you see as one of the principal conceptual boundaries constraining U.S. foreign policy thinking, and what experiences (at Columbia or elsewhere) have prepared you to think beyond it.
